I specialise in optimising fertility, healthy pregnancy and children's health through individualised nutritional programmes and am associated with The Spire Bristol Hospital Fertility & Reproductive Medicine Clinic, a nationally recognised clinic for its expertise. I also design nutrition and lifestyle programmes for people with a wide range of health goals.
I use your health history which includes your family history, environment and life events to assess your individual needs and underlying causes of health imbalances. The functioning of your bodily systems is assessed, as there are usually several areas of under-functioning that has lead to a symptom or disease; therefore restoring balance throughout the body is essential to regain health and not just manage symptoms. A range of diagnostic testing is available including female hormone panels, allergy screens and stool analysis.
Why Nutritional Therapy?
When there is a greater state of health, there is less room for disease.
Nutritional therapy promotes health through individualised diet and lifestyle programmes aimed at targeting the source of the problem rather than symptoms. By taking a detailed case history from you and with the help of diagnostic tests an effective programme can be generated so that you can achieve optimal health.
It is not possible to create a standard programme for a specific health condition or symptom, as there are often different contributing factors involved across populations. My assessment of your individual health and my personalised approach optimises the effectiveness of your programme.
With your health or the health of your child being my focus, I look at ways to improve health within the parameters of what you are prepared to do or change. Some people make dramatic changes, others small changes; but each has positively influenced their health. I am not here to judge; I am here to give you or your child the tools for better health, taking into account what is realistic for you as well as your personal, financial and cultural circumstances.
What Is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional therapy is the application of biochemistry. The hundreds of chemical reactions that occur in your body every day allow your body to function. Every reaction starts off with a substance that then goes through a series of events to get to the final desired product. For example, cholesterol can be used to make oestrogen and on the way to making oestrogen three other products have to be made first. Nutrients from your foods are used to build the substances involved in the reactions and also allow the series of events to flow, in order for the final product to be made. I describe nutrients as being the body's equivalent of money; they can be exchanged for the substance the body requires, for example a hormone or a molecule of energy. With this understanding it is possible to apply nutrition to a range of health conditions that are not immediately associated with being food related.
